Narrative is very important in American writing to help you get into the habit of brainstorming specific examples you can practice with the chart that I just showed you you can get a copy on my website I include the link in the description for this video or you can get a copy from me via email again it is not enough just to tell people what we want to say we have to make them understand by showing them what we mean if you make a person think you are halfway there if you make a person feel you make that person understand because we do not understand with our heads we understand with our hearts so the best way to make yourself understood is to make other people feel something and the best way to make other people feel something is to express our own feelings ourselves. Now how do we do that well in psychology the psyche the place of emotion is called the emotional body and when we have psychological pain that is called the pain body our emotions our feelings are literally stored in our physical bodies we have a memory of everything we have ever experienced in this life stored in our physical bodies so our emotions and our feelings are literally stored in the cells of our physical bodies so to access our emotions we go into our bodies how do we do that we enter our bodies through one of the five senses as you know there are five senses and in English they are called sight hearing touch taste and smell we enter our physical body through one of the five senses so that we can access our emotions so right now I want to do a small mindfulness exercise with you to enter the physical body to access our emotions so I want you to take out some paper and a pen and I want you to write down some things first write down three things that you see for example I see the camera I see the lamp and I see the computer.

Write down three things that you see next write down three things that you hear for example I hear the traffic outside my window write down three things that you hear next write down three things that you feel and I don’t mean feel emotionally like happy or sad I mean things that you can literally feel with your physical body for example on your skin for example I can feel my rings on my finger I can feel my jacket against my skin and I can feel the floor underneath my body write down three things that you feel we do this mindfulness exercise so that we can be present inside our bodies and we want to be inside our bodies so that we can feel our emotions and we feel our emotions so that we can make other people feel emotions too so that we make them understand so that we make ourselves understood.
